In a previous discussion on probiotic foods, we focused on using naturally fermented foods that are rich in some of the most popular probiotic strains such as lactobacillus acidophilus. We got a vegan version very rich in lactic acid by making sauerkraut that provides lactobacillus plantarum. Now we can look at products that contain at least 15 different types of bacteria and see how this can be of additional benefit to us.
Repopulate With More Species of Beneficial Bacteria
Good health is not about the amount of each type of bacteria you need but more the variety of strains you take. Microbes grow by themselves, so the latest trend is to provide a larger selection that will then take care of establishing a healthy population of beneficial bacteria. All we need is a packet of seeds to grow a "gut" garden with many types of flowers or flora. The greater the variety, the better. Just add milk or water and let Mother Nature do the rest.
Liquid probiotics are highly concentrated solutions of a large variety of strains. The most efficient way to repopulate beneficial gut flora is to grow them. They multiply in water at room temperature and are thus very economical to use every day for the whole family. They can be used to augment the bacterial activity in fermented foods and a little of the active culture is all you need to make millions of them. This helps to generate a broad spectrum of both aerobic and anaerobic probiotic activity within the body.
Effective Microbe Technology Was Developed in Japan
The EM (Effective Microbe) technology was developed over 25 years ago in Japan by Dr Teruo Higa. During his extensive research, they demonstrated the synergistic activity of multiple strains of probiotics. More from less! They formulated their selection from microbes in nature that interact with each other to balance the environment.
Typical brews of about 15 strains of probiotics contain almost 40 trace minerals, about 18 amino acids, various organic acid compounds, nearly 100 types of enzymes, vitamin A (Retonin is easy to absorb) and B-complex vitamins.
During the years of research and development, these microbial blends proved to be very useful to mankind, animals and plants. They seem to make everything thrive by imitating nature to provide a balanced and harmonious environment that is teeming with beneficial microbes the researchers call "efficient microbes." The prototype formulations have also been used as cleaning agents in bathrooms or kitchens, for agriculture and for breaking down organic waste in domestic sanitation units.
Please consult a health practitioner for extra advice when using liquid probiotics for candidiasis, allergies, skin disorders, chronic fatigue, thyroid imbalances, cancer, liver or bowel problems and immune disorders. Some of the probiotic solutions these days can be applied directly to the skin or used for mouth rinses and vaginal douches. People use them for washing their fruit and vegetables. Now there's an organic idea!
Different Families of Probiotic Strains Used in Trials
The combined action of lactic acid bacteria, beneficial yeasts, soil-based organisms and phototropic bacteria (similar to blue-green algae) work together to repopulate as well as balance and harmonise the gut environment. They are ideal for use with cancer-fighting and immune deficient protocols. Enjoy then as a daily vitality tonic and to make your gut garden grow. Also visit the kitchen for more probiotic foods.
Lactic Acid Bacteria
- Bifidobacterium animalis ssp lactis,
- Bi bifidum
- Bi longum
- Lactobacillus acidophilus
- L bulgaricus
- L.casei
- L. delbrueckii
- L. fermentum
- L. plantarum
- L.diacetylactis
- L. lactis
Lactic acid is a strong sterilizing compound, and suppresses harmful microorganisms and breaks down and ferments organic matter such as lignin and cellulose. They also produce antibacterial compounds that are known as bacteriocins. Bacteriocins "punch" holes through the membrane that surrounds the pathogenic bacteria and work like natural antibiotics but they do not harm the good guys.
Lactobacilli and bifido bacteria help to inhibit E.coli or Clostridium perfringens. They help to prevent diarrhoea caused by rota virus or salmonella. They help to reduce the proliferation of candida that causes dysbiosis. They assist in bulking the stool and help to speed up the elimination of toxic waste in the bowel.
They help in digestion in general, by balancing pH and improving the uptake of minerals, especially calcium. They help us digest lactose (milk sugar) They make vitamins for example, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 B12, A, D and K, and also essential fatty acids. They produce hydrogen peroxide at safe levels. They also keep cholesterol and triglyceride levels in check, and break down excessive hormone levels to prevent oestrogen dominance.
Phototropic Bacteria
- Rhodopseudomonas palustris
- Bacillus subtilis
Rhodopseudomonas palustris are anaerobic and similar to blue-green algae. They support the activities of lactic acid and yeast based microbes by consuming toxins and pollutants like carbon dioxide, ammonia, methane and hydrogen-sulphide. They excrete oxygen, amino acids, antioxidants like vitamin A and other substances that enhance life.
Bacillus subtilis are derived from straw. This probiotic was a traditional immuno-stimulatory aid in the treatment of gut and urinary tract diseases such as rotavirus and shigella during World War 2. It was the prototype for modern antibotics but it also has anti-viral activity that is unique in this class of drugs. It also does not harm beneficial bacteria.
Beneficial Yeasts
- Saccharomyces cerevisiae,
- Streptococcus thermophilus.
These strains belong to the brewer's yeast family and provide protein, B vitamins and chromium that helps to improve insulin sensitivity. Candidiasis is an infection from a different species of yeast and needs to be controlled by the combined action of beneficial yeast and other probiotic strains.
Probiotic Synergy Helps to Enhance Health and Wellbeing
People take probiotics after using antibiotics that kill the beneficial gut bacteria. Natural antimicrobial substances also destroy our gut flora so watch out for propolis, excessive amounts of garlic, cloves, golden seal and oregano oil. When your body has restored a healthy population of effective microbial helpers you will experience the following benefits:
- The gut breaks down food properly and generates essential vitamins, amino acids and enzymes. It can eliminate effectively with a bulkier stool content and control diarrhoea, bloating, leaky gut and other digestive upsets. (However, if a gluten or wheat intolerance is present this needs to be addressed to treat IBS, celiac disease or spastic colons. In some cases colonic irrigation is very beneficial.)
- The immune system can fight off infections and destroy cancerous cells more effectively. (But you still need to eliminate any foods that you do not tolerate. Especially when it comes to blood type conflicts.
- Dairy products are not well tolerated by some people, so liquid probiotic seeding solutions would be preferable. ) Bones are stronger by absorbing bone-building minerals like calcium and magnesium from food. (You still need to improve the intensity of your stomach acid, especially if you suffer from asthma.)
- Cholesterol levels are more controlled, providing you do not eat excessive refined carbohydrates, saturated fats and all that sugar. (Probiotics do not cure bad eating habits that lead to insulin resistance.) The effects of allergies like hay fever, asthma and skin rashes are reduced. (But these may still be due to low stomach acid or reactions to what you are eating. It is best to eliminate all food that does not suit you.)
- The heavy metal load is reduced and hormones like strong cell proliferating estrogens can be broken down into weaker and more beneficial forms. Your thyroid will give a sigh of relief and bad moods and headaches will just blow away. (You still need to control blood sugar and do a heavy metal detox from time to time.)
- Candida yeast will once again become the natural food of beneficial gut flora. Progesterone and vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) will no longer be consumed by candidiasis. Pathogenic mycotoxins will no longer emerge and gang up against you to promote cancer. Biofilms within the gut lining will be gobbled up by gut flora.
